Qasar Younis and Peter Ludwig founded Applied Intuition in 2017 to sell autonomous vehicle developers the tools they were otherwise building badly in house: simulation, log management, data pipelines and test infrastructure. The company still does that, and the customer list now reaches 18 of the world's 20 largest automakers. What changed is scope. Applied Intuition sells into automotive, trucking, construction, agriculture, mining and defense, describing the whole of it as physical AI, and a Series F in mid-2025 raised $600 million at a $15 billion valuation with Andreessen Horowitz, BlackRock and Fidelity participating. Total funding is around $1.5 billion. Headquarters are in Mountain View, with offices in Ann Arbor, Detroit, Washington, Munich, Stockholm, Seoul and Tokyo.
The commercial toolchain is where the company started and where most of the named software lives. Simian runs scenario simulation, Spectral handles sensor simulation for camera, radar and lidar, Logstream ingests and replays drive logs, Basis covers validation and release readiness, and Strada manages map and drive data. The 2023 purchase of Mechanical Simulation Corporation brought in CarSim, TruckSim, BikeSim and SuspensionSim, physics-based vehicle dynamics models that much of the industry already used. Above the tools sit two bigger bets. Vehicle OS is a software platform for the whole vehicle, sold to the TRATON Group across Scania, MAN, International and Volkswagen Truck and Bus, and developed jointly with Porsche. The Self-Driving System is Applied's own autonomy stack, aimed at trucking with Isuzu under a Level 4 development alliance, and at off-road machines in mining, construction and agriculture. Dana, an agentic platform, is the newest layer.
Defense grew from the same code base and is now a business with its own brand. Acuity is the onboard autonomy software, meant to drop onto platforms from ground vehicles to fighter aircraft. Axion is the mission control and tooling side, handling collaborative autonomy and multi-machine coordination across land, air, sea, space and the electromagnetic spectrum. The Army selected the company to support Robotic Combat Vehicle autonomy development in 2022, and in 2025 a team converted a bare Infantry Squad Vehicle into an autonomous one in ten days after a challenge from Army leadership, then took it to Fort Johnson for live training with the 101st Airborne. Acquisitions filled the gaps. EpiSci arrived in February 2025 with tactical AI that had flown the Air Force X-62A VISTA in an AI-against-human dogfight, plus maritime tracking and battle management work. Embark Technology came in 2023 for autonomous trucking, and Reblika in 2025 for synthetic human generation used in simulation. A partnership announced with SNC in late 2025 puts the autonomy stack into Expeditionary Area Air Defense and the reconfigurable anti-air launcher that goes with it.
