Three former Bundeswehr officers, Marc Wietfeld, Maximilian Wied and Stefan Roebel, started ARX Robotics in Munich in 2022 on a straightforward observation from their own service. European armies are short of people, their vehicle fleets are old, and the tasks that consume manpower at the front are dull and dangerous ones a machine could do. The company builds ground robots for those jobs and, separately, sells the software to make existing vehicles behave like them. Funding has come in steps, a 31 million euro Series A led by HV Capital in April 2025 with Omnes Capital, the NATO Innovation Fund and Project A participating, then an 11 million euro extension led by Speedinvest that brought the round to 42 million.

Gereon is the tracked platform, built for rough ground and heavy loads, and the one that has seen the most use. It runs reconnaissance, resupply, casualty evacuation and payload carriage, and ARX has supplied what it describes as the largest fleet of Western built uncrewed ground vehicles in Ukrainian service, with frontline feedback going straight back to the engineers. Hector is the wheeled counterpart, trading ground clearance for speed and range on logistics runs where the terrain allows it. Both are modular, taking different mission payloads on the same chassis rather than existing as separate purpose built vehicles.

Mithra OS is the part of the business with the larger addressable market. It is an operating system for ground systems, handling perception, autonomous navigation and remote operation, and it is designed to be retrofitted into vehicles that were built long before anyone considered autonomy. ARX puts the potential retrofit population at up to 50,000 NATO vehicles. That framing, modernising what armies already own rather than asking them to buy entirely new fleets, is what has drawn in industrial partners. RENK and Daimler Truck have both worked with the company, and in October 2025 DEUTZ signed a strategic partnership that moved Gereon into industrial series production at the engine maker's Ulm plant, with the first series built vehicles announced in July 2026 and destined for Ukraine. Six European armed forces were using ARX systems by 2026, Germany and the United Kingdom among them, and the company has taken part in European Defence Agency work. For a business four years old with three named products, the interesting thing is where it has positioned itself. Not as another robot vendor, but as the software layer other manufacturers plug into, which is a harder position to take and a much harder one to dislodge.

The service side matters more than the short product list suggests. Retrofitting an autonomy kit into a truck or a tracked carrier that entered service decades ago means dealing with mechanical linkages, analogue controls and safety cases written for a human driver. Most of that is integration engineering. ARX also fits mission payloads to its own platforms for reconnaissance, medical evacuation, resupply and electronic warfare roles, and it runs operator training and in-theatre support for fielded systems. Ukraine has been the proving ground for all of it. Vehicles that work in a demonstration field behave differently in mud, jamming and artillery, and the company has rebuilt parts of its designs off the back of that, which is a shorter feedback loop than a traditional procurement programme allows.
