//Overview

ATI is a specialty materials producer whose revenue is now weighted heavily toward aerospace and defense. The company was created in 1996 from the combination of Allegheny Ludlum and Teledyne, traded for years as Allegheny Technologies, and adopted the shorter ATI name in 2022 along with a move of its head office to Dallas, Texas. It employs around 7,600 people and reported 4.6 billion dollars of revenue in 2025, with aerospace and defense making up roughly 68 percent of sales and international business about 42 percent. It is listed on the New York Stock Exchange as ATI.

The business runs in two segments. High Performance Materials and Components covers titanium and titanium alloys, nickel and cobalt based superalloys, advanced powder alloys, precision forgings, castings, machined components and additive manufacturing. Around 80 percent of that segment's revenue comes from aerospace and defense, and roughly 60 percent from commercial jet engine products, which tells you where the volume is. Advanced Alloys and Solutions handles high value flat rolled products, specialty alloys and engineered stainless sheet, with energy, aerospace and defense together making up more than half of its revenue.

The defense catalogue is specific in a way that materials catalogues often are not. On the titanium side ATI supplies armor-grade products including ATI 425-MIL and ATI 6-4-MIL, along with a wide range of commercially pure and alloy grades. On the steel side it produces High Hard, Dual Hard and Ultra High Hard armor plate, plus named grades such as ATI K12-MIL and ATI 600-MIL. Armor plate is offered from three sixteenths of an inch up to an inch thick in sheets as large as 96 by 300 inches. Beyond armor it makes duplex stainless grades including 2003, 2102 and 2205, precipitation hardened grades including 13-8, 15-5 and 17-4, nickel based alloys, nickel-titanium shape memory alloys, and reactive and refractory metals including tungsten, zirconium, hafnium and niobium.

Applications the company names run across jet engines, airframes, hypersonics, land vehicle structures and armoring, naval systems and weapons. The land vehicle case is the clearest illustration of why titanium matters here, since combat systems designed with extensive titanium content have achieved overall weight reductions of around 40 percent. Zirconium and hafnium tie into naval nuclear and reactor applications, and the powder business feeds both additive machines and hot isostatic pressing routes.

The boundary is worth stating plainly. ATI does not design or integrate platforms. It melts, forges, rolls, atomises and machines the materials that engine makers, airframers, shipbuilders and vehicle manufacturers then turn into hardware. Its position in a program is set at qualification and tends to persist for decades, which makes the company more exposed to production rates than to individual contract awards. Its inclusion in an advanced materials category reflects both the powder and additive side of the business and the underlying metallurgy that makes additive processes possible in the first place.
