BAE Systems OneArc
Whole-earth simulation hosts, image generation, terrain tools and distributed-simulation interoperability for military training.
OneArc is the simulation software business BAE Systems built out of three separate acquisitions, and it went to market under one name only at the end of 2025. Bohemia Interactive Simulations, founded in 2001 and still the largest piece, wrote the Virtual Battlespace line that became one of the most widely fielded game-based trainers in NATO. TerraSim of Pittsburgh brought automated terrain generation. Pitch Technologies of Linkoping in Sweden brought the run-time infrastructure that a large share of distributed simulation and NATO interoperability work depends on. BAE began renaming the legal entities in November 2025 and launched the combined unit as BAE Systems OneArc that December. The products carried over unchanged, which is why trade coverage still puts BISim in brackets.
The simulation side centers on VBS4, a whole-earth virtual desktop training and simulation host, and VBS Builder Edition, which lets integrators and defense customers build their own simulation applications on the same core. Visualization is handled by Blue IG, a real-time image generator aimed at trainers and mission rehearsal systems, with a software development kit for teams that want to go from prototype to fielded product without writing a renderer from scratch.
Terrain is the other half of the story. TerraTools automates construction of correlated synthetic environments and exports to third-party run-times as well as to VBS, and Mantle Enterprise lets a team collaborate on terrain creation, editing and streaming inside a private cloud rather than passing databases around by hand. The Pitch products cover interoperability: Pitch Infrastructure for distributed simulation architectures, Pitch Talk for real-time voice across a federation, Pitch Developer Tools for open-standards integration, and Pitch Debrief for synchronized after-action review.
Above the product catalogue sit three packaged solutions. BattleLab is a transportable sub-unit training system shipped in rugged cases with hardware and software already configured. SceneCast pairs drones and photogrammetry workflows with Mantle terrain tools so a unit can survey ground in the field and train on it days later. FlowState is a self-contained drone operator trainer built on VBS4.
The services arm handles custom integration, mission-specific solution development, synthetic environment and 3D content creation, deployment tuning and open-standards consulting, backed by support plans that run up to a premier tier. OneArc keeps a large library of vehicle, weapon, character and environmental models built to hold up under thermal and night vision sensor modes as well as ordinary optics.
The customer base spans more than 60 nations. The US Army has run Virtual Battlespace under its Games for Training program since 2013 and completed a contract modification in 2025 to move that fleet from VBS3 to VBS4. The Danish Army signed a seven-year modernization agreement in 2026 covering VBS4, VBS Builder Edition, Blue IG and TerraTools Platinum. Offices run from Orlando and Pittsburgh through Prague, Kosice, Paris, Linkoping, Farnborough, Gatwick and Williamtown in Australia.
