Bittium Corporation
Finnish specialist in tactical software-defined radios, secure mobile devices and biosignal medical technology, plus contract R&D engineering.
Bittium is a Finnish technology company in Oulu, listed on Nasdaq Helsinki under BITTI. Its engineering roots go back to 1985 and to Elektrobit, and the present company took shape in 2015 when Elektrobit sold its automotive software business to Continental and the remaining wireless and defence operations were renamed Bittium. It employs roughly 500 to 600 people and reported net sales of EUR 85.2 million with an operating result of EUR 8.6 million in 2024. Three businesses sit under one roof, and they are more closely related than they look, because all three rest on the same radio, low-power electronics and signal processing skills.
Defence and security is the largest and the fastest growing. The tactical communications line covers the Bittium Tough SDR software-defined radio family in handheld and vehicular versions, the Tough Comnode tactical router and voice terminal, and the Tactical Wireless IP Network, known as TAC WIN, which builds a self-forming broadband backbone across a battlefield. Recent additions include TAC WIN Smart Link 360 for improved tactical radio link performance. These are mobile ad hoc networking products designed for use where fixed infrastructure does not exist or has been destroyed, and Finland's own experience of territorial defence shows in the design priorities.
The secure communications side sells hardened smartphones and encryption software to governments and authorities handling classified material. The Bittium Tough Mobile 2 range and its Tough Mobile 2 C variant carry NATO Restricted and NATO Confidential approvals, and the SafeMove suite provides mobile VPN, device and application management, and end to end encrypted communications. Bittium has been integrating quantum-safe cryptography into SafeMove Mobile VPN.
Medical technology came in through the 2016 acquisitions of Mega Electronics and MegaKoto and now covers biosignal measurement and analysis. The Bittium Faros family handles Holter, long-term cardiac and cardiac event monitoring, with HolterPlus and the MedicalSuite platform providing analysis and cloud service around it. Respiro is a home sleep apnea testing device with AI-assisted scoring. BrainStatus is a wireless EEG amplifier for intensive care and emergency use that lets nursing staff start a measurement in minutes rather than waiting for a technician, and NeurOne serves neuroscientific research.
Engineering services is the third leg, offering contract R&D in system and architecture design, electronics, mechanics, RF and antenna design, software development, testing and verification and DevOps, across industrial IoT, radio units, medical devices, mobile devices and mobile satellite communications.
The defence order flow has grown sharply. Bittium signed a long-term agreement with the Finnish Defence Forces running from 2025 to 2036 and a framework agreement with both the Finnish and Swedish Defence Forces in November 2025. Its tactical products are also in service with Croatian and Estonian forces. For a company of this size, that is an unusually deep national position in an area normally held by much larger primes.
