Elbit Systems

Elbit Systems traces back to 1966 and grew into its current shape through a steady run of mergers, most significantly the 2000 combination with Israel's El-Op electro-optics house, which is why Elbit still organizes a large chunk of its business around optics and sensors. The company today reports five segments, and each one covers real ground rather than a single flagship product. Aerospace builds airborne platforms and systems, most visibly the Hermes family of unmanned aircraft (the Hermes 450 and Hermes 900 are combat-proven and widely exported), along with precision-guided munition sensors, aircrew training and simulation systems, and commercial aviation avionics. C4I and Cyber covers command and control systems, tactical data links and radios, cyber intelligence tools, autonomous systems, and homeland security platforms, reflecting how much of modern warfare now runs through networked information rather than raw firepower.

ISTAR and EW is the direct descendant of the El-Op merger, supplying electro-optic and laser systems, thermal sights, and a broad line of electronic warfare and signals intelligence equipment used to detect, jam, and deceive enemy sensors and communications. Land covers armored vehicle systems, artillery and mortar systems, and munitions for land, air, and sea use, and it is the segment behind Elbit's fastest-growing recent product, the Iron Fist active protection system, which uses radar and interceptors to destroy incoming anti-tank rockets, guided missiles, and even tank rounds before they hit an armored vehicle. Iron Fist has moved from demonstration to contract in a hurry, with 2025 live-fire tests against 120mm kinetic rounds leading to integration work on both the Swedish-designed CV90 and the US Army's Bradley fighting vehicle. The fifth piece, Elbit Systems of America, is a separately managed US subsidiary that lets the company compete directly for American defense contracts as a domestic supplier rather than a foreign one, an increasingly important structure given how much of its growth now comes from NATO and allied markets rather than Israel alone.

Other named products in the portfolio include the Skylark and Silver Arrow tactical drones, E-LynX software-defined tactical radios, the Iron Sting precision-guided mortar round, and SIGMA 155 self-propelled howitzers. Elbit is publicly traded on both the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange and Nasdaq, and the Federmann family, which came into the company through the El-Op merger, remains its largest shareholder. The company employs roughly 20,000 people worldwide, with a meaningful and growing share of that workforce, more than 3,000, based in the United States as Elbit Systems of America has expanded through both organic contracts and acquisitions.
