EnerSys
Industrial, motive, and military batteries and power systems.
EnerSys makes industrial batteries and power systems at a scale few competitors match, and while most of that business serves forklifts, telecom towers, and data centers, a dedicated defense and aerospace line puts the company squarely in the middle of military power supply chains as well. Headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania and formed in its current shape in 1991 out of a lineage that runs back through Yuasa, EnerSys is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange and employs somewhere around 10,000 people across its global manufacturing footprint. The company organizes its business into a handful of major lines. Motive power covers the batteries and chargers that run electric forklifts and other material handling vehicles, historically the core of the business.
Reserve power supports telecom, utility, and data center backup applications, an area of steady growth as data infrastructure has expanded. Specialty batteries cover transportation, medical, and other niche applications, and it's here alongside a dedicated Precision Power Solutions segment that EnerSys's aerospace and defense work sits, providing energy systems for military vehicles, advanced defense programs, soldier power, and autonomous systems. The ODYSSEY line is EnerSys's best-known battery brand and shows up across both its commercial and defense-adjacent product lines. Built on thin plate pure lead, or TPPL, technology, ODYSSEY batteries pack more, thinner lead plates into the same case than a conventional battery, which the company says roughly doubles available power and triples service life compared to standard designs.
The ODYSSEY Extreme series is built for high cranking demand, delivering pulses up to 2,700 amps for five seconds and tolerating hundreds of deep discharge cycles, characteristics that matter for military vehicles that need reliable starting power after sitting unused in the field and that can't afford a battery failure at the wrong moment. Beyond ODYSSEY, EnerSys's Precision Power Solutions segment engineers batteries and power management systems specifically for defense platforms, covering everything from vehicle power to dismounted soldier power needs and the growing demand for reliable power on autonomous and robotic systems. That segment doesn't chase headline weapons programs the way a prime contractor does, but it sits inside the power supply chain for a wide range of military vehicles and systems that all depend on batteries that won't fail under vibration, temperature extremes, or years of intermittent use. EnerSys's scale, global manufacturing base, and century-plus lineage in battery chemistry give it a depth of engineering that smaller specialty battery makers can't easily match, and its defense-focused Precision Power Solutions line is a direct extension of that broader industrial battery expertise into military applications.
