Fiocchi Munizioni S.p.A.

Small calibre ammunition for defence, police, hunting and sport

//Overview

Fiocchi has made cartridges in Lecco since Giulio Fiocchi took over an existing ammunition line on 3 July 1876, and the family reached a fifth generation still involved in the firm. It employs more than a thousand people worldwide on around 220 million euros of consolidated revenue. Ownership shifted twice in quick succession. The private equity fund Charme III bought in alongside the family in 2018 through a holding named FCC S.p.A., and in December 2022 the Czechoslovak Group took 70 per cent, with the remaining 30 per cent split between the Fiocchi family and Charme Capital Partners. Fiocchi now sits inside CSG Ammo+, the small calibre arm of a group of more than a hundred companies with over 14,000 staff and revenue above 6 billion euros, alongside American names such as Federal, Remington, CCI and Speer. The company marked its 150th year in 2026.

What separates Fiocchi from most ammunition brands is that it makes every component of a cartridge inside its own Lecco plant, meaning primers, bullets, cases and propellants. The company points to that vertical setup, combined with production flexibility, when explaining how it holds its ground on world markets. Its catalogue is organised by purpose rather than by calibre alone. The stated categories are hunting, sport, recreational shooting, reloading, personal and home security, public and private security, humane slaughter, and defence, with military and police work covering both lethal and less lethal loads.

The service calibres are the ones a procurement officer will recognise. Rifle loads include 5.56 and .223 Remington, 7.62 and .308 Winchester, .300 AAC Blackout, 6.5 Creedmoor, .30-06 Springfield and .338 Lapua Magnum for precision shooting. Handgun loads run to 9 mm Luger, 9x21, .40 S&W, .45 Auto, .357 SIG and .357 Magnum. Shotshells span 12 through 36 gauge plus Flobert, and rimfire centres on .22 Long Rifle. Blank ammunition and loose components fill out the range, and the older European service calibres stay in the book too, from 7.62 Nagant and 7.62x25 Tokarev to 9 mm Makarov and 7.65 Parabellum. The company states NATO qualification for its 9 mm, 5.56 and 7.62 products, and describes a supply relationship with the Italian Ministry of Defence that began with wartime production and carried on into joint research work.

Growth has come largely by buying neighbours. Fiocchi of America opened in 1983 and now makes most of what it sells in the United States, working from Ozark in Missouri and a plant acquired at Little Rock in Arkansas. Fiocchi UK followed in 2007. Baschieri and Pellagri, the Bologna shotshell house, was bought in 2020, and the British brand Lyalvale Express, with works at Lichfield, in 2022. A quieter corner of the catalogue serves agriculture and industry, where humane slaughter cartridges and industrial powder loads sell to buyers who have nothing to do with shooting sports or armed forces.
