Fortem Technologies was founded in April 2016 in Utah by Timothy Bean and Adam Robertson, building on radar expertise the founders brought from earlier work at IMSAR, and it has stayed focused since then on one problem: giving militaries and infrastructure operators a way to see small drones on radar and then physically remove them from the sky. That second part, actually intercepting a drone rather than only detecting it, is what distinguishes Fortem's product line from most of the counter-UAS field, which tends to specialize in either sensing or jamming but rarely both together with a hard-kill option. The detection side runs on the TrueView family of radars, sold in the R20, R30, and R40 variants scaled for different range and coverage needs, all built around AI-assisted classification meant to tell a small drone apart from a bird at range, historically one of the harder problems in counter-UAS radar. The TrueView C30 is a companion long-range pan-tilt-zoom camera that provides visual confirmation once radar has flagged something worth a closer look.

All of that feeds into SkyDome Manager, the company's software layer that fuses radar, camera, and other sensor inputs into one airspace picture and manages engagement decisions. What makes Fortem distinctive is the DroneHunter, an autonomous interceptor drone that launches from an automated DroneHangar, flies to a detected threat under SkyDome's guidance, and captures it, netting rotary-wing drones at a claimed capture rate above 95 percent and fixed-wing targets at better than 85 percent, without an explosive warhead or a human pilot flying an intercept by hand. The company says its systems have captured more than 5,000 UAVs cumulatively across deployments, which include NATO and Gulf state customers, the 2022 FIFA World Cup security effort in Qatar, and protection for US military installations, airports, and critical infrastructure sites. Fortem's highest-profile recent work has been in Ukraine, where it has supplied both the man-portable SkyDome system and the DroneHunter interceptor to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, along with on-site training and support, giving Ukrainian forces a way to physically down Russian reconnaissance and attack drones rather than only jamming them.

That combat use has helped validate the company's approach at a moment when European and Middle Eastern militaries are rapidly building out layered counter-drone defenses. Fortem remains privately held, backed by strategic investors that include Lockheed Martin, Boeing's HorizonX venture arm, Toshiba, and DCVC, and in 2025 it opened a new, larger manufacturing headquarters in Lindon, Utah, more than doubling its production capacity to keep up with demand for DroneHunter and TrueView systems.
