GE Aerospace is what is left of General Electric after the conglomerate finished dismantling itself. GE HealthCare separated in 2023, the power and renewables businesses left as GE Vernova in April 2024, and the entity that kept the GE ticker on the New York Stock Exchange builds aircraft engines and nothing else. Around 57,000 people work across more than 80 facilities in 21 countries. Revenue was 45.9 billion dollars in 2025, and the aviation business dates to 1917, when GE built the first American turbosupercharger for the Army. The installed base runs to roughly 80,000 commercial and military engines, a figure that matters more than the annual production rate, because the aftermarket is where the margin sits. The company reports two segments. Commercial Engines & Services is the larger at roughly 33 billion dollars. Defense & Propulsion Technologies holds the rest, split into two businesses. Defense & Systems covers military air combat, trainer, tanker, helicopter and marine applications. Propulsion & Additive Technologies holds four companies that trade under their own names, Avio Aero in Italy, Dowty Propellers in Gloucester, Unison Industries and Colibrium Additive.
The commercial catalogue splits by aircraft size. The GE9X powers the Boeing 777X and is the largest commercial turbofan ever flown. GEnx flies on the 787 and the 747-8, the GE90 on earlier 777s, and the CF6 is the veteran still turning on freighters and tankers decades after launch. Narrowbody volume arrives through CFM International, the fifty-fifty joint venture with Safran running since 1974, which built the CFM56 and now the LEAP for the 737 MAX and the A320neo family. Regional and turboprop work covers the CF34, the CT7, and the Catalyst, a clean-sheet turboprop developed out of Avio Aero.
Defense & Systems is a smaller revenue line with a deeper bench of programs. The F110 powers F-16 and F-15 fighters. The F404 and F414 fly on the F/A-18 Super Hornet, the Gripen and the T-7A Red Hawk trainer. Rotorcraft run on the T700, in service on Black Hawk and Apache since the 1970s, and on the T408 for the CH-53K King Stallion. The T901 was selected for the Army Improved Turbine Engine Program to reengine those same Apache and Black Hawk fleets. Tanker and airlift squadrons fly the F108 on the KC-135 and the F138 on the C-5M. Marine propulsion is a separate line again, where the LM2500 and the uprated LM2500+G4 drive warships for navies around the world alongside the LM500 and LM6000. Edison Works is the advanced and classified development arm, working the XA102 adaptive cycle engine, hypersonic propulsion, and the small GEK800 and GEK1500 engines aimed at expendable and attritable aircraft. Sustainment is sold as TrueChoice Defense Services. Additive manufacturing sits inside the group for a practical reason rather than a promotional one, because GE has been printing fuel nozzles in series production since the LEAP entered service and now sells the machines through Colibrium.
