GMV Innovating Solutions
Satellite ground segments, defence C4ISR, cyber, transport and health software
GMV is a privately held Spanish technology group that has spent four decades turning orbital mechanics into working software. It was set up in 1984 out of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, is still run from Tres Cantos on the northern edge of the city, and now employs more than 4,000 people with offices in a dozen countries and customers in around eighty. Revenue reached 510 million euros in 2025. The company splits itself into eleven sectors: space, aeronautics, defence and security, intelligent transportation systems, automotive, cybersecurity, digital public services, healthcare, industry, financial and a broader services line. The spread is less scattered than it looks, because the navigation, real-time control and data engineering behind a satellite ground segment turn out to be the same engineering behind a bus fleet or a surgical planning tool.
Space is the deepest of the eleven. GMV builds ground control and mission segments, flight dynamics and satellite control software, and it holds maintenance and evolution work on the Galileo Ground Control Segment along with the Galileo Second Generation system test bed. It developed the SouthPAN augmentation system for Australia and New Zealand and the European Union's GOVSATCOM communications hub. Operators know its product names: hifly for satellite control, the focusSuite flight dynamics family, magicSBAS and magicPPP for augmentation and precise point positioning, and the eoagri, eomarine and eoforest Earth observation services. Space surveillance and collision avoidance sit in the same portfolio.
Defence and security covers command and control, ISR, secure navigation, infantry systems, cyberdefence, simulation and training, border and maritime surveillance and physical security. Named systems include Talos for fire support coordination, the SAPIIEM intelligence suite built to NATO interfaces, SISCAP for dismounted soldiers, SENDA for the Spanish Navy F-110 frigates, Socrates for border surveillance and shiplocus for port and maritime traffic. Aeronautics runs onboard software and hardware certified to civil aviation standards for the Eurofighter, A400M and A330 MRTT, the XKY real-time operating system for modular avionics, mission planning tools, and navigation for remotely piloted aircraft, including the ground flight control computer for Eurodrone.
The civil sectors are large enough to matter commercially. Intelligent transportation systems put dispatch, ticketing and passenger information on buses, trams and trains under names such as Moviloc and SAE-R. Automotive work targets connected and autonomous driving. Cybersecurity runs from advisory through a managed security operations centre, and the digital public services, healthcare, industry, financial and services lines carry the group's information technology business, from telemedicine and epidemiology platforms to banking systems it has supplied for more than twenty-five years. Very little of it is sold as shrink-wrapped software. Most arrives as a system built for one customer and then hardened into a product.
