Grupo Oesia
Avionics, optronics, encryption, UAV autopilots, satcom and defence IT
Grupo Oesia is a privately held Spanish technology group organised around five brands, and the spread between them is the point of the company. Oesia Networks sells digital transformation and IT services to public administration and industry. Tecnobit, whose plant sits in Valdepenas in Castilla-La Mancha, carries the defence engineering: avionics, optronics, simulation and tactical communications. Cipherbit was created in 2022 to pull encryption hardware and cybersecurity into one brand, with products certified by Spain's National Cryptologic Centre and by NATO. UAV Navigation, founded in 2004 and bought by the group in 2021, designs autopilots and flight control computers. Inster, acquired from Grupo CPS in 2022, does satellite communications for land, naval, airborne and space use. Around 4,000 people work across roughly 20 offices in Europe, Latin America and Asia.
Tecnobit is the part a procurement officer meets first. Its avionics fly on the Eurofighter Typhoon, the A400M, the A330 MRTT, the C295, the F-18 and the MH-60R, and the company's position inside those programmes carried it into the Future Combat Air System. Optronics is the second line, running from cooled thermal channels through visible cameras to laser rangefinding, and the Argos family is the reference product. The Spanish Navy is replacing the Elbit sensors on its Santa Maria class frigates with Argos 15HD units. Spain's defence ministry separately picked Tecnobit to fit driver vision cameras across the army's Pizarro infantry fighting vehicles, a job worth about 57 million euros, and the Castor camera generation was shown at trade shows the year before that award. Simulation is a business of its own, covering flight simulators, combat simulation centres and duel trainers, and SAFO is the largest military simulation project the group has running in Latin America.
The three smaller brands are where the group has grown fastest. Cipherbit sells the Cerberus multiprotocol cryptographic device for voice, data and IP on tactical platforms, and ERMES, a key manager written to operate across national, NATO and European Union security domains. UAV Navigation's VECTOR-600 flight control computer carries physical and logical redundancy and dead reckons through GNSS jamming, backed by the POLAR-300 air data and AHRS unit, the POLAR-500 with dual GNSS compassing, and Visionair ground station software. Inster builds the SGoSat family of satcom on the move terminals for vehicles, the Sailsat naval terminal for low earth orbit constellations, and FoldSat, its first terminal cleared for Eutelsat OneWeb. Eurodrone has become the group's showcase. Airbus Defence and Space in Spain has handed Oesia the cross domain solution, the voice communications system, the airborne encryptor and the flight test cipher, which makes it the Spanish supplier with the most content on that aircraft. Oesia Networks, meanwhile, keeps the civil side of the house busy with systems integration and managed services work that never appears in a defence catalogue.
