InVeris Training Solutions
Live fire ranges, targetry and virtual weapons training for military and police.
InVeris Training Solutions sells two halves of the same problem: teaching someone to shoot without spending ammunition, and building the range where they shoot for real. The live fire lineage runs back to Caswell International, founded in 1926 and credited with the first target retrieval system and bullet trap. Firearms Training Systems, the simulator business everyone knows as FATS, started in Atlanta in 1984. Meggitt bought FATS in 2008 and merged the two into Meggitt Training Systems. Pine Island Capital Partners took the business off Meggitt for around $146 million in 2020 and renamed it InVeris that October. Headquarters is Alpharetta, Georgia, staffing sits somewhere between 400 and 450, and the company claims installations in more than 40 countries.
The virtual side splits between defense and public safety customers who buy much the same equipment for different reasons. SRCE, an augmented reality weapons trainer whose name stands for see, rehearse and collectively experience, lets a group work through a scenario together while wearing headsets. Virtual reality work grew from the 2021 acquisition of SURVIVR, a Dallas company whose product trained officers in de-escalation. Projection systems remain the volume business, throwing scenarios onto a screen for marksmanship and judgement training. BlueFire wireless weapon simulators supply the recoil through a rechargeable compressed air magazine and talk to the system over Bluetooth, which removes the tether that used to define simulated shooting. Heavy weapon and vehicle simulators cover crew served and mounted work, and fats Drone, launched at I/ITSEC in December 2025 on the Bohemia Interactive Simulations VBS4 engine, trains first person view and small unmanned aircraft operators several at a time.
Live fire is the older half. Targetry covers stationary and moving infantry and armour targets, self propelled movers, turning target systems, running man targets and location of miss and hit scoring that tells a shooter where a round passed. The XWT wireless target carrier removed the wiring from retrieval. Ballistic containment runs from the GranTrap rubber granulate trap, rated up to .50 calibre, through steel escalator and venetian blind traps, gun clearing traps and baffles. Range management software, shooting stalls and dust collection finish the indoor package. Range Solutions is the service wrapper covering design, construction, maintenance and a build your own range path for smaller commercial customers. Caswell Live Fire was relaunched as the live fire brand in January 2026.
Government programmes carry the defense business. The Engagement Skills Trainer II became an Army programme of record, with a five year contract worth up to $99 million from the simulation and training programme office covering more than a thousand new and upgraded systems and their simulated weapons. The Marine Corps indoor simulated marksmanship trainer runs on a similar footing, with roughly 490 systems installed and a $2.6 million order for extra wireless weapons in 2020. Not everything landed. The Army cancelled the squad advanced marksmanship trainer contract in 2020 and moved the money to its synthetic training environment.
