Millog Oy

Lifecycle maintenance, logistics and optronics for Finland's armed forces.

//Overview

Millog is the company the Finnish Defence Forces turned to when it stopped doing its own heavy maintenance in uniform. It holds a strategic partnership under which it services the materiel of the Finnish Army and Navy and the surveillance systems of the Air Force. Patria owns 61.8 percent of it and Insta Group the other 38.2 percent. Turnover runs at 256 million euros with around 1,200 security cleared staff working from a nationwide service network rather than a single plant, and the group carries ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and the defence quality standard AQAP-2110. It holds an AAA credit rating and reports employee satisfaction at 92 percent.

Servicing and maintenance is the core trade. Millog overhauls armoured and unarmoured vehicles, weapons, engines and transmissions, electronic and multitechnology systems, reserve power plant and vessels, and it runs calibration laboratories and CBRN services. Marine and engine work sits in Millog Marine and Power. The company supported the Finnish Army's mid life upgrade of its CV9030 infantry fighting vehicles, a job scoped deliberately to keep the knowledge and the spares inside Finland. Industrial customers buy the same capability, from mining and energy operators to rail fleet owners, with VR FleetCare, Agnico Eagle Finland, Caruna and Fortum among the named references.

Logistics and storage is the second leg: secure storage, inventory and stock optimisation, and controlled disposal of ammunition and equipment that has reached the end of its life. Strategic services sits above that, covering contingency planning, lifecycle management, cyber security and management systems, and Host Nation Support arrangements for allied forces moving through Finland since NATO accession. Millog joined the Nordic and Baltic ODIN defence network to work the same problem across borders.

Manufacturing and resale is smaller and more interesting. SAFECEL is a modular TEMPEST shielded room, developed with the prefabrication specialist Parmaco, that lets an organisation handle classified material electronically inside an ordinary building without structural work, qualified against Finnish, EU and NATO Secret requirements. It installs inside an existing building without structural work or a shutdown. Millog distributes and maintains Flexotrap bullet traps across the Nordics and Baltics and sells portable heaters and secure communications equipment. The optronics come from Senop, the group's product company working out of Kangasala, Lievestuore, Oulu and Tampere, which builds the AFCD TI fire control sight for Carl-Gustaf recoilless rifles and the OSKAR TWS multi weapon thermal sight used with the Nammo M72, alongside night vision, target acquisition, surveillance, vehicle vision and hyperspectral imaging systems and encrypted communications. SA-kauppa, the group's retail arm, sells Finnish Defence Forces surplus to the public.
