Muon Space, Inc.

Turnkey sensing constellations, spacecraft buses, payloads and orbital operations.

//Overview

Muon Space sells whole missions. A customer arrives with a sensing problem, and the California company designs the constellation, builds the bus, builds or integrates the payload, launches it and then flies it, handing back data rather than hardware. Founded in 2021 by Jonny Dyer, Pascal Stang and Reuben Rohrschneider, it works out of Mountain View with a payload facility there and a much larger production plant in San Jose, and it passed 260 staff during 2026 after more than doubling headcount the year before. Funding runs to a 146 million dollar Series B, extended in June 2025 with an 89.5 million dollar tranche that also paid for the acquisition of Starlight Engines, a propulsion startup whose zinc fuelled Hall effect thruster is now the electric propulsion option across the fleet.

The company describes its six capabilities as a mission foundry. Mission design and simulation comes first, worked through a flight validated digital twin called Muon Sim that models orbit, power, thermal, communications and payload performance before metal is cut. Spacecraft platforms are the Condor line, which succeeded the earlier MuSat buses. Condor-M is the workhorse, Condor-XL carries about four kilowatts of payload power, and Condor-Ultra, revealed in June 2026, is a Starship class platform offering up to one hundred kilowatts to the payload and more than eighteen square metres of nadir area. Payloads and data products cover multispectral infrared instruments, the Quickbeam-S sensor for space based environmental monitoring, and GNSS reflectometry payloads that read soil moisture and ocean winds from reflected navigation signals. Orbital AI puts inference on the spacecraft. Constellation production is the plant, sized to move from contract to launch in about ten months. Managed orbital services is the operations desk, run on the company MuonOS software stack under the Halo integrated architecture.

Eleven spacecraft have flown. MuSat-1 demonstrated the approach in 2023 and MuSat-2 and MuSat-3 followed with GNSS reflectometry for defense customers and thermal infrared for Hydrosat. The flagship is FireSat, a planned 52 satellite wildfire detection constellation for the Earth Fire Alliance backed by Google.org and the Bezos Earth Fund, whose protoflight launched in March 2025 and whose first three operational satellites went up in July 2026. Defense work includes a Space Systems Command environmental monitoring prototype, a missile warning sensor payload under a SpaceWERX award, weather sensing for the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center with the Defense Innovation Unit, and a place on the Missile Defense Agency SHIELD vehicle. Sierra Nevada Corporation is a customer too, for the Vindler radio frequency geolocation constellation, and Hubble Network has booked a direct to satellite Bluetooth mission for 2027. Production capacity is being pushed toward five hundred spacecraft a year, with twenty satellites already manifested over the following twenty months.
