
Norsk Titanium AS
Norwegian producer of structural titanium parts by wire-fed rapid plasma deposition, replacing forgings on commercial aircraft, defense platforms and industrial equipment.
Norsk Titanium sells one process and does it thoroughly. Rapid Plasma Deposition feeds titanium wire into an argon plasma torch inside an inert chamber and builds up a near-net-shape preform layer by layer, which is then machined to final geometry. The comparison that matters is against a forging. A structural titanium forging requires expensive tooling, long lead times and a buy-to-fly ratio that can throw away most of the input material. Norsk claims up to 75 percent less raw material, up to 70 percent lower machining cost, up to 90 percent less machining time and roughly 40 percent lower total part cost.
The company was founded in 2007 by Alf Bjorseth and Petter Gjorvad and is headquartered at Hoenefoss, north west of Oslo, with its Eggemoen Technology Center there covering production and development. It listed on Euronext Growth in Oslo in 2021 under the ticker NTI and also trades over the counter in the United States as NORSF. Headcount is small, on the order of 130 people. The second site is in Plattsburgh, New York, split between a Production Center and a Defense and Qualification Center, and that US footprint is deliberate. Production there is ITAR registered, which is the practical precondition for American defense work.
The qualification record is the real asset. The FAA approved RPD structural parts in February 2017, and more than 2,000 Norsk parts are now installed on aircraft. The company holds Nadcap accreditation for additive manufacturing at Plattsburgh, granted in May 2026, and AS9100D certification, and its material data is published in MMPDS, the handbook aircraft structural engineers actually design against. It also holds AMS 7004 and 7005 compliance. Getting a directed energy deposition process into MMPDS took years and is the reason primes will put RPD parts into certified structure rather than treating them as experimental.
Commercially the anchor has been Boeing, where RPD parts have been in serial production on the 787 Dreamliner. Airbus signed a collaboration agreement in March 2026 to jointly develop and document the directed energy deposition process for RPD, following joint demonstration work in 2025. The wider customer list includes General Atomics, Safran, Leonardo, Northrop Grumman, Gulfstream, RTX and Hittech.
Defense has become the growth story. Norsk received a purchase order from a US Department of Defense contractor for prototype defense articles, and by early 2026 was in final negotiation on funded qualification programs with both the US Navy and the US Air Force. It was also selected by the Innovation Capability and Modernization office for a funded development contract covering components for land, sea and space vehicles, which is a broader remit than its aerospace roots suggest. Alongside that it sells into industrial markets including semiconductor equipment, energy and specialty alloys.
What Norsk Titanium is not is a parts designer or an integrator. It takes a customer drawing for a structural titanium component, deposits and machines it, and hands back a qualified part. The bet is that as titanium supply tightens and lead times lengthen, a process that turns wire into structure in days rather than months becomes strategically interesting to defense buyers.
