PIT-RADWAR S.A.

Polish radars, air defence command systems, guns and missile fire units.

//Overview

PIT-RADWAR is what happened when Poland decided to keep its radar industry under one roof. The company dates its lineage to the State Telecommunications Institute created by ministerial decree in 1934, but the entity trading today was assembled in 2011 out of PIT, CNPEP RADWAR and DOLAM, briefly carried the name Bumar Elektronika, and became PIT-RADWAR in 2014 as it moved under Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa. It works from Warsaw with a second site in Wroclaw, and its registered capital of about 460 million zloty gives some sense of the consolidation involved.

Radar reconnaissance systems are the backbone. The range covers the P-18PL VHF early warning radar built around active electronically scanned array antennas, the WARTA three-coordinate L-band surveillance station, the TRS-15M Odra mobile medium range radar delivered in a run of 28 sets, the deployable ZDPSR Bystra and ZDPSR Sola stations carried on the Zubr-P armoured vehicle, the WLR-100 Liwiec artillery locating radar on a Jelcz chassis, the Bren-2 on a Tatra 815 and the TUGA set aimed at drones and counter-unmanned work. The SAJNA multifunction fire control radar, developed from 2012 by a consortium the company led with Warsaw University of Technology and the Military University of Technology, is the primary sensor of the Narew short range air defence programme and works in C band with an instrumented range of 180 km. Identification friend or foe interrogators and passive electronic reconnaissance sit alongside the active sensors.

Command support and fire control systems form the second area. SZAFRAN handles tactical command from battalion up to corps, LOWCZA-3 covers air defence command, and REGA is the modular battery-level system. Fire units are the third. PIT-RADWAR builds the 35 mm AG-35 and A-35 towed anti-aircraft guns, the SA-35 self-propelled version on a Jelcz 663.45 six-wheel truck chassis, the POPRAD self-propelled very short range air defence missile system, and the OSU-35K naval remote weapon station and close-in weapon system armed with a 35 mm Oerlikon KDA autocannon, and it supplies the radar and command elements of the PSR-A Pilica gun and missile set. Research and development projects appear as their own catalogue heading rather than as an internal function, which is how systems like SAJNA move from study to production. Modernisation work keeps the installed base current, the NUR-21MK low-flying target detection stations handed over to Land Forces units being a recent example. Other products, from subassemblies to power supplies, fill out the rest of the offer. SAJNA had its public debut at the MSPO show in 2024, steering electronically through 70 degrees in elevation and rotating mechanically through the full azimuth. Identification friend or foe equipment is sold as a product line in its own right, and the passive electronic reconnaissance work gives the company a foothold in electronic warfare that few other Polish firms hold. The Wroclaw site carries part of the manufacturing load. Taken together the portfolio explains why almost every Polish ground-based air defence programme of the past decade has PIT-RADWAR somewhere inside it.
