PT Len Industri (Persero)

PT Len Industri is the holding company for Indonesia's state defence sector and an electronics manufacturer in its own right, which makes it an unusual entity to describe. The company began in 1965 as a national electronics research institute in Bandung, became a state enterprise in 1991, and in January 2022 was restructured into the parent of Defend ID, the brand launched that April to consolidate PT Pindad, PT Dirgantara Indonesia, PT PAL Indonesia and PT Dahana under one roof. Len also runs subsidiaries of its own in railway systems, renewable energy, telecommunications and digital services.

Defence electronics is where Len competes rather than merely owns. The company positions itself in C4ISR, and its catalogue runs across the AXYS family of command and control products, covering a combat management system, a maritime patrol aircraft mission system, an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance control system and a joint tactical command system. LINK ID provides a national tactical data link, MINDS supports multi-intelligence decision making, and the OMNICOM integrated communication system comes in naval, mobile platform and ground based versions. CENTRINAV distributes navigation data, MAESTRO manages assets, and the unmanned line covers the DID 3.11 beyond line of sight aircraft, the AEROSIGHT vertical takeoff surveillance drone, the AEROBAIT target drone and the AUTACS flight control computer. Project work includes upgrading DA-05 radars aboard four Indonesian Navy ships, repairing Master-T and TD-2000 radars, fielding the Mandala combat system on eight ships and installing Starstreak air defence equipment. Len also modernised the combat system on the frigate KRI Usman Harun, built a gunnery firing range for the navy and supplied the mission system for Indonesia's medium altitude long endurance unmanned aircraft.

Transportation systems are the largest single revenue source. PT Len Railway Systems, formed in 2012, works as an engineering, procurement and construction contractor in railway signalling, power supply and telecommunications, with its SiLSafe computer based interlocking and communication based train control on the Soekarno-Hatta airport skytrain, the South Sumatra light rail, Jakarta and Jabodebek light rail lines and Java double track routes.

Renewable energy dates to 1985 and moved to subsidiary PT Surya Energi Indotama in 2024. Len keeps a solar module plant rated at 71 MWp a year, while Surya Energi builds on-grid, off-grid, hybrid and floating solar plants. The ICT and navigation systems line supplies marine and aviation navigation equipment, digital television transmitters, electronic identity card readers, kiosks and seafarer record systems, and it delivered the central package of the Palapa Ring backbone. Underneath all of it the Len Manufacturing Center runs surface mount and through-hole electronics lines, electro-optic assembly and environmental test rigs.
