Revision

Revision was founded in 2001 in Essex Junction, Vermont, building ballistic and laser protective eyewear for the US military and allied forces, and it grew over the following decade into one of the most widely fielded eyewear brands in the defense market. Along the way the company, then operating as Revision Military, expanded well beyond eyewear into body armor, helmets, and soldier power systems, becoming a broader soldier systems company rather than a single-product eyewear maker. That broader footprint changed in 2019, when Revision Military sold its eyewear business, along with the Revision name and its Essex Junction manufacturing operation, to ASGARD Partners & Co and Merit Capital Partners. The armor, helmet, and soldier and platform power divisions that had grown up alongside the eyewear business stayed with the original corporate entity, which took on the name Galvion and continues to operate as a separate soldier systems company. The split means that today, the company carrying the Revision name is a smaller, eyewear-focused business, while the helmet and power systems work that used to sit under the same roof lives on under Galvion instead.

Under its current ownership, Revision has returned to what it calls its founding mission, designing, developing, and manufacturing protective eyewear for men and women in uniform, all of it built in-house at its 53,000 square foot Vermont facility with around 130 employees handling assembly. Its product lines include ballistic sunglasses and goggles rated to stop high-velocity fragments, along with eyewear built to protect against laser threats, a niche but important protection requirement for aircrew and other personnel operating around directed energy and targeting lasers. Products like the SlingShot and ShadowStrike lines are built specifically for tactical use, with lens systems and frame designs meant to survive impact without shattering into the wearer's eyes, a failure mode ordinary sunglasses are not built to prevent. Revision describes itself as one hundred percent US owned and operated, and its Vermont manufacturing base has stayed in place through both the original company's growth into a broader soldier systems supplier and its 2019 narrowing back to an eyewear specialist. What is listed here as Revision reflects the company as it exists today, an eyewear-focused manufacturer, while its former armor and power systems lines now belong to Galvion, a separate company with its own contracts and product roadmap. Both companies trace back to the same Vermont origin, but they have not shared ownership or a single line of products since the 2019 split. For a buyer sourcing eyewear specifically, that narrower focus is arguably an advantage. Rather than splitting engineering attention across armor, helmets, power systems, and eyewear the way the pre-2019 company did, the current Revision puts all of its in-house manufacturing capacity behind one product category, ballistic and laser protective eyewear, and has kept its Vermont production line running under new ownership without interruption to the military and law enforcement customers who depend on it.
