RTX came together in April 2020 when Raytheon Company merged with the aerospace side of United Technologies, and the combined firm now runs as three businesses under one roof. Pratt & Whitney builds jet engines for both commercial and military aircraft, including the F135 that powers every variant of the F-35, plus the geared turbofan family that has become a mainstay under narrowbody airliners, and it is pushing an adaptive-cycle fighter engine through development using digital design tools to speed the process. Collins Aerospace supplies the electronics and structures side of flying: avionics like the Pro Line Fusion flight deck, ejection seats, landing systems, aerostructures, and mission systems for both commercial carriers and military aircraft, drawing on the old Rockwell Collins and Goodrich businesses it absorbed. Raytheon, the government-facing defense arm, is where most of RTX's name recognition comes from.

It builds the Patriot air defense system, fielded by the US Army and more than a dozen allied militaries, and NASAMS, a shorter-range system developed jointly with Norway's Kongsberg that gained attention for its role defending Ukrainian cities. Its naval interceptors, the Standard Missile SM-3 and SM-6 families, handle ballistic missile defense and anti-air and anti-ship missions from Navy ships, while the Tomahawk cruise missile remains the US military's primary long-range land-attack weapon. AMRAAM and the AIM-9X Sidewinder cover air-to-air combat, StormBreaker and Excalibur handle precision air-to-ground and artillery strikes, and Javelin, built through a joint venture with Lockheed Martin, is the anti-armor weapon that became closely associated with Ukraine's early defense against Russian armor. Raytheon has also moved into counter-drone work with the Coyote interceptor system and into directed energy with its High Energy Laser Weapon System, which completed vehicle-mounted tracking and firing trials with the British Army, and it builds the LTAMDS radar meant to give the Army's air defense network a 360-degree view.

Guidance Enhanced Missile rounds for the Patriot launcher and the GPS-guided Excalibur artillery shell round out a land-warfare portfolio that has grown busier as allied governments replenish stockpiles depleted by aid shipments to Ukraine. RTX is headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, employs roughly 180,000 people worldwide, and trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker RTX as an S&P 500 component. It remains one of the largest US defense contractors by revenue, with government sales concentrated in Raytheon but commercial aerospace still supplying a substantial share of total revenue through Pratt & Whitney and Collins.
