Firearms, ammunition, optics, suppressors, airguns and weapon stations.

//Overview

SIG SAUER Inc. is the American company that carries the SIG name, and it is a separate business from the Swiss and German firms the brand descends from. It opened in 1985 as Sigarms, an importer working out of Virginia, moved to New Hampshire in 1990 and began building pistols in Exeter, then put roughly 18 million dollars into a corporate campus at the Pease International Tradeport in Newington that opened in 2014. Ownership sits with L&O Holding, the German family group behind the SIG and Blaser brands, so the US entity is a subsidiary rather than a listed company. Around 3,000 people work for it across roughly eleven sites in New Hampshire, Oregon and Arkansas.

Firearms remain the anchor of the business. The striker-fired P320 won the US Army Modular Handgun System competition and entered service as the M17 and M18, both built with a manual safety that the standard commercial pistol does not carry, and the compact P365 changed what buyers expect a concealed-carry pistol to hold. Rifles run from the MCX and the MPX submachine gun through the CROSS bolt action to the 716 in 7.62mm. The largest military award came in April 2022, when the Army selected SIG for the Next Generation Squad Weapon, a package covering the XM7 rifle, the XM250 automatic rifle and the 6.8mm hybrid cartridge that feeds both. Fielding started with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell in 2024, type classification followed in May 2025, and units including the 25th Infantry Division were receiving the M7 by early 2026. US Special Operations Command separately took delivery of the MG 338, a belt-fed machine gun in .338 Norma Magnum sized to sit between the M240 and the M2 heavy machine gun.

The rest of the company grew up around the guns. Ammunition manufacturing moved to Jacksonville, Arkansas in 2016 and now spans a six-building campus of about half a million square feet, including a 210,000 square foot plant opened to support 6.8mm production for the Army. Electro-optics work runs from Oregon, where the company builds the ROMEO reflex and red dot sights, TANGO riflescopes and KILO laser rangefinders sold to soldiers, police and hunters alike. Suppressors, airguns and the Pitbull remote controlled weapon station round out the catalogue, the last of these ordered by Israel alongside SIG machine guns. Instruction is a business in its own right at the SIG SAUER Academy in Epping, New Hampshire, which has trained civilians, police and military shooters since 1996. Hunters, competitors and ordinary buyers purchase the same optics, suppressors and ammunition the armed forces do, and that commercial base carries the company through the gaps between government orders. It is why a defence contractor also runs a retail catalogue.

The P320 has drawn sustained legal attention. More than a hundred lawsuits allege the pistol can discharge without a trigger pull, juries in Georgia and Philadelphia found the design defective in 2024, and the New Jersey Attorney General sued the company. SIG rejects the claims and maintains the pistol is safe. In July 2026 the Eighth Circuit ordered a certified Missouri class action dismissed in full.
