Systematic A/S

Systematic is a Danish software company founded in Aarhus in 1985 by Michael Holm, who started it with two employees and a single product and remains majority shareholder and working chairman after handing daily management to Nikolaj Bramsen in 2023. It is the largest privately owned software company in Denmark, with more than 1,100 staff across offices in over a dozen countries and revenue that reached roughly EUR 218 million in the 2023/24 financial year. The common thread across everything it sells is software that has to keep working when the decision being made is consequential and the data behind it is messy.

Defence is the largest and best known part of the business. The SitaWare suite is a commercial off the shelf command and control and C4ISR family used by NATO and more than 50 nations. SitaWare Headquarters is the staff-level planning and situational awareness layer, SitaWare Frontline runs at the vehicle and platform level, and SitaWare Edge takes the picture down to the dismounted soldier on a handheld device. Around those sit SitaWare Insight for intelligence and data fusion, SitaWare BattleCloud for keeping data synchronised across a disconnected tactical network, SitaWare Maritime for naval operations, SitaWare Battlefield Health for military patient tracking and medical planning, and SitaWare Aspire, a digital training platform for teaching C4ISR systems without tying up operational kit. Systematic organises this work by domain rather than by product, covering land, maritime, air and joint or multi-domain operations.

The IRIS suite is the other defence product line and addresses a narrower but stubborn problem: multinational interoperability. IRIS Forms, IRIS Military Mail and IRIS Standards Management handle formatted military messaging and the management of the standards themselves, which is what lets a Danish headquarters and a coalition partner exchange orders and reports without hand translation.

Outside defence, Systematic builds Columna, a clinical and electronic health record platform used in Danish hospitals and in care settings elsewhere, covering patient logistics, clinical documentation and workflow. It also supplies Cicero, a library management system used by libraries and educational institutions, and has built data management platforms for the Danish police and Danish intelligence services. Utilities and other public sector customers make up the rest.

Professional services and training wrap around all of it. Because SitaWare is sold as a product rather than a bespoke build, a large share of Systematic's work is integration, configuration, national adaptation and the training that goes with a fielded C2 system. That model is unusual among defence software suppliers, most of which either build custom national systems or sell platforms tied to their own hardware. Systematic sells neither vehicles nor radios, which is a large part of why its software turns up inside so many different national architectures and alongside equipment from competing primes.
