Terma A/S
Danish group spanning surveillance radar, naval command and control, aircraft self-protection, aerostructures, space electronics and through-life support.
Terma is Denmark's largest defense and aerospace manufacturer, run from Lystrup just outside Aarhus and owned by Thrige Holding A/S. The business traces back to a small instrument workshop set up by the Jorgensen brothers in the 1940s and was incorporated under the Terma name in 1949. It now employs around 2,000 people and reported revenue of roughly DKK 2.9 billion for the 2024/25 financial year. Terma reports through five business areas, and reading it as a radar house or an F-35 subcontractor alone misses most of what it actually sells.
Command, Control and Sensor Systems builds the SCANTER family of X-band surveillance radars, used for coastal surveillance, port and airport traffic control, naval navigation and helicopter approach, and for suppressing wind turbine clutter in air traffic pictures. The SCANTER 5000 and 6000 series sit on warships and coastal sites in a long list of countries, and the SCANTER Sphera, launched in 2025, is a purpose-built 3D counter-drone set. The same area owns C-Flex, a naval command and control system that scales from a single console on a patrol craft up to a two dozen console frigate fit, plus the ground-based air defense command and control layer Denmark is now fielding. In November 2025 Terma bought the UK counter-drone specialist OSL Technology, pairing defense-grade sensors with a civil airport style drone management suite for critical infrastructure work.
Airborne Systems is the electronic warfare and aircraft survivability business. The ALQ-213 electronic warfare management unit acts as both a controller with sensor fusion and a firewall between an aircraft mission computer and its self-protection subsystems, and it is fitted across a wide F-16 user base. Terma packages missile warning sensors and countermeasure dispensers into the PIDS+ and ECIPS+ pylons, which let legacy aircraft carry a full self-protection fit without cutting into the airframe. The unit also does 3D audio and active noise reduction for cockpits and runs electronics manufacturing services for radar and power electronics.
Aerostructures designs and manufactures metal and composite structures for military and commercial aircraft. Terma supplies more than 80 components for the F-35 Lightning II, including composite skins and the external gun pod, which remains the only certified external pod design for that aircraft and has since been developed into a Multi Mission Pod carrying other payloads.
The Space business supplies mission-critical electronics, software and services to European and commercial space programs. Products include the HE-5AS star tracker and power conditioning and distribution units, among them the 14 kW conditioning unit flown on ESA's BepiColombo mission to Mercury. Terma was prime contractor for the ASIM atmosphere and space interactions observatory mounted on the International Space Station.
Global Support and Services carries through-life support for all of the above, covering spares, repairs, upgrades and training. That is the part that keeps installed radar and self-protection fleets available over decades rather than years, and it is why Terma shows up in sustainment contracts long after the original delivery.
