The Kinetic Group

The Kinetic Group is what is left when you strip the outdoor gear out of Vista Outdoor and keep the ammunition. Vista split its sporting products segment into a standalone business under that name in 2024, then sold it to the Czechoslovak Group, the Prague-based industrial holding controlled by Michal Strnad, for $2.225 billion. The deal closed in November 2024 after clearance from the Federal Trade Commission and the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, which is the review that decides whether foreign ownership of an American ammunition maker is acceptable. It was. The business is headquartered in Anoka, Minnesota and employs around 3,800 people across plants in Minnesota, Arkansas, Idaho and Oregon, sitting inside CSG's Ammo+ division alongside the group's European ammunition holdings.

Seven brands sit under the roof and each covers a different part of the market. Federal is the largest, spanning hunting, target, law enforcement duty and military calibres, and it carries the group's rifle and shotshell engineering. CCI owns rimfire, the .22 ammunition that most American shooters learn on, along with primers. Speer makes handgun ammunition and is the name behind the bonded duty rounds carried by a great many police agencies. Remington brings the oldest name in American gunmaking and a broad centrefire and rimfire catalogue. HEVI covers tungsten and high density shotshell loads for waterfowl and turkey shooters, and is moving its operation from Oregon to Missouri. Fiocchi of America and the exclusive United States rights to Baschieri & Pellagri joined in 2026 when CSG consolidated its full ownership of Fiocchi and folded the American arm into the group, adding shotshell and handgun volume out of the Springfield, Missouri area.

Defense relevance comes from scale rather than from any single product. Small arms ammunition is a commodity until a war starts, at which point domestic loading capacity, primer supply and brass production become strategic questions, and this group holds a large share of all three in the United States. Component sales matter as well, since primers, cases, bullets and powder feed the reloading market that absorbs demand spikes. Law enforcement and government buying runs through the Federal and Speer duty lines. The group also spends visibly on hunter education, range safety and conservation programmes, which is partly commercial self-interest and partly the price of operating in a politically exposed industry. The CSG connection cuts both ways for American customers. It ties the group to a European owner that has been one of the largest suppliers of artillery ammunition to Ukraine, giving it access to capital and to loading capacity on two continents, while also making it the subject of periodic political argument about who should own the plants that make American small arms ammunition. CFIUS has already answered that question once.
